When purchasing a new car you would expect the paintwork to be faultless, unfortunately when new cars leave the factory they’re often far from perfect. With multiple storage and transportation stages before delivery to the dealership there are plenty of opportunities for damage to occur. Tree sap, bird lime, iron flings and industrial fall out can begin to attack the paintwork before you even collect it. More damage is usually inflicted when the dealership then use their valeters who have little experience and minimal time to give the vehicle a PDI wash, using old sponges and drying with a blade can inflict fine scratches, marring and holograms. When you collect your new car you may have a quick look around it, checking for obvious damage but without looking closely at the paintwork this underlying damage can be easily missed due to your excitement. You may have even been talked into buying the dealerships protection packages (supaguard, diamondbrite, autoglym lifeshine,and gard x to name a few), dealers charge £400+ with bold claims that protection will last for many years, this sounds amazing but the truth is they cost around £20 and offer very little protection. After a few washes you may notice the swirl marks present in the paintwork and a drop in the depth of shine. Then an invisible coating is applied to cloth seats and carpets which bonds to the fibres of the fabric repelling any water based liquids, which reduces the risk against water spills and similar liquids from staining your carpets or fabrics.
